Child deaths

18th Apr 2008

From 1st April 2008, the Child Death Overview Panel will receive information on all deaths of children and young people, from 0 to 18 inclusive, living in the North Yorkshire area.

The purpose of this panel is to review child deaths to identify trends and actions that can be taken on a population wide basis to improve the health and safety of all children, both locally and regionally.

The Child Death Overview Panel is set up under the auspices of the Safeguarding Children Board. It has been agreed that North Yorkshire and City of York will join together to share a panel that will meet on a regular basis. Its findings will be fed into the two Safeguarding Children Boards. Chapter 7 of "Working Together" sets out the procedures to be followed when a child dies. A North Yorkshire procedure – setting out local arrangements – is being produced and will be available on this website in May.
